Ullapool Harbour Trust appointed Lochshell Engineering as the Principal Contractor for the refurbishment and upgrade of the existing ice plant. Don Electrical were appointed the subcontractor for all electrical works, including design, manufacture and installation of, internal and external lighting, internal power points, all cable work and new control panel for the ice delivery system. Our main objective was to provide a new ice delivery system which would supply ice to both sides of the pier from the plant’s existing position. Lochshell Engineering were involved from conceptual design stage through to testing and commissioning.
The upgrade and refurbishment works included in the project were:
- All associated drawing works from conceptual to detailed design.
- Design and installation of new reinforced concrete access ramp to allow forklift access into the ice plant.
- Removal and relocation of existing staircase to allow for construction of the internal working area.
- Internal and external steelwork modifications and sown takings. Design, fabrication and installation of new structural steelwork to maximise working space within the ice plant.
- Design, fabrication and installation of structural supports for the new delivery system.
- Installation, commissioning and testing of the new iceplant delivery system. This involved working closely with the specialist manufacturer throughout the project. The chute delivery was made telescopic to allow it to be packed away when not in use. This also allows for the accurate delivery to containers at various heights.
- Re-cladding of external faces and the roof. Installation of new roller shutter at the front of the building for forklift access. Supply and installation of replacement windows and doors. All colours to match the newly constructed ferry terminal building.
- Miscellaneous guardrails, crash barriers and lighting works fabrication and installation.
