Lochshell Engineering was commissioned by QinetiQ to undertake the design and fabrication of new reinforced concrete bases. The bases are used as weights to submerge testing equipment at their Ministry of Defence site in Kyle of Lochalsh. Lochshell Engineering were responsible for full design, concrete and reinforcement specification and construction of the bases in-house. The bases were then transported to site where they are currently being used.
QinetiQ requested Lochshell Engineering to undertake a full inspection of their LARS (Launch and Recovery System). The LARS is used to launch and recover ROV from boats, and consists of the A-frame, skid assembly and winch housing, each of which required a structural inspection to identify defects which may require attention during an upcoming outage. The condition of the hydraulic workings and pipelines was also reviewed. Lochshell Engineering provided QinetiQ with a detailed inspection report, refurbishment proposal and associated budget costs for both the steel and hydraulic works.
