Lochshell Engineering were appointed as the Principal Contractor to initially undertake the civils works associated with Ullapool Harbour. The works were undertaken as part of the upgrades at the harbour to allow fuelling of vessels, including MV Loch Seaforth which operates from Ullapool to Stornoway. Lochshell Engineering were included in the pre-tender stage, advising location and delivery of the fuel tank bund, pipeline routes, services and phasing of the works.
Main responsibilities throughout the works included:
- Principal Contractor duties under CDM Regulations 2015.
- Construction of reinforced concrete tank bund and adjacent fuelling slab.
- Installation of oil interceptor tanks, security fencing and gates, vehicle barriers and associated pipework and elements.
- Installation of 4No fuelling chambers adjacent to the harbour edge, with lift assist inspection covers.
- Fabrication and installation of 70No steel composite and 22No reinforced concrete service duct covers.
Following completion of the civils works, Lochshell Engineering were asked to undertake the following on behalf of the client:
- Removal of existing redundant fuel line from service trenches and below the main pier.
- Cleaning of the service trenches and localised concrete repairs.
- Installation of 250m of new cable trays within service ducts and connection of existing cable.
- Installation of over 800m of new 50mm diameter flux core low smoke cable.
- Design review of new fuel line proposals and fuel tanks protective coating.
- New lighting system designed and installed across the harbour.
