Lochshell Engineering were appointed in November 2017 by Moray Council to be the Principal Contractor to carry out repair works to the pontoon system at Findochty Harbour, Findochty, Moray.
Following concerns from Moray Council regarding the operation of the marina pontoons at Findochty Harbour, Lochshell Engineering were appointed to carry out the associated refurbishment works.
The works included:
- Removal of West pontoons and fingers, delivery to Lochshell Engineering’s workshop in Wick.
- Inspection of the pontoon system to ascertain the requirement of repairs.
- Removal of defective plastic protection strips from the external steelwork.
- Refurbishment of defective steelwork structures. The main pontoons were 6m long x 2m wide, constructed from a framework of galvanised steel and timber.
- Removal and replacement of damaged pontoon floats, made from galvanised steel boxes with a polystyrene infill.
- Manufacture and installation of float brackets, polyurethan guide bearings and pontoon hinges.
- Manufacture and galvanise ladder and pontoon guides.
- Replacement of defective timber decking sections and supporting timbers. Application of marine primer and 2No coats of Coo-Var anti-slip deck paint in yellow, as per the request of the client.
- Coating of external steelwork using Galvafroid and a top coat applied using Hammerite gloss.
- Transportation of pontoons from Wick to Findochty.
On site works involved the following:
- Removal of and disposal of existing pontoon guides and ladder, and installation of new.
- Installation of the new refurbished West pontoons and fingers.
- Pressure washing of the East and Middle pontoon decks.
- Localised repairs to broken deck timbers on the East and Middle pontoons, 15% of timbers had to be replaced.
Works completed April 2018.
